The Ministry of Defence (MoD), on September 7, 2026, published the draft Jhansi Cantonment Building Bye-laws, 2026, proposed by the Cantonment Board, Jhansi under Section 251 of the Cantonments Act, 2006. The draft is intended to supersede the earlier notification dated April 22, 1944, subject to the saving of actions already taken.
The proposed Bye-laws would apply within the limits of Jhansi Cantonment and would come into force only upon their final publication in the Official Gazette by the Central Government. They prescribe, among other matters, definitions and requirements relating to applicants, building plans, architects, barrier-free access, building envelopes, building height, commercial buildings and the competent authority responsible for sanctioning building plans.
As the notification is a draft, it is not presently the final operative building bye-law framework. Interested persons may submit objections or suggestions to the Cantonment Board, Jhansi or by email within 30 days from the date on which copies of the Gazette containing the draft are made available to the public. The draft is also available at the Cantonment Board office and its website.
